Power metal er en stil inden for heavy metal-musikgenren. Der er uenighed omkring præcis hvad power metal henleder til, da der både findes en nordamerikansk og europæisk definition. Dog er opfattelsen oftest at der er tale om den europæiske stil. Typisk brug af instrumenter er vokal, guitar, bas, guitar, trommer og keyboards. Det er ofte præget af meget melodiske riffs, skønsang og generelt en "glad" stemning. Typiske tekster er om helte, krig og eventyr.
We worked with him [Coen Janssen] very closely to bring the DragonForce sound and also his style into it. So, it’s still DragonForce keyboarding—you know, the video game sound. We have a bit more of a retro, synthwave [sound] in it as well, along with the big orchestra stuff.
Marketed as a very ‘80s-themed album, DragonForce combines the styles of synth and outrun with the band’s very own tried-and-true heavy metal sound. As an homage to this style of music, this comes as a surprise to many longtime DragonForce fans, but it’s quite a joy to listen to. With something as popular as synthwave making a resurgence, it's both fun and interesting to see this style reimagined and reinvented for a brand new audience. Metalheads and synthwave listeners can come together in the wake of this new hybrid of music
