The Afghan Commando Forces (Persian: نیروهای کماندوی افغانستان, Pashto: افغان کمانډو لړۍ) were the former combined commando, paratrooper and special formations of the Afghan Army, composed of numerous brigades, regiments and battalions initially established by King Mohammad Zahir Shah in 1964 and disbanded in 1992 by President Mohammad Najibullah, following the collapse of the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan and the events of the Afghan Civil War, lasting until the Taliban’s rise to power in 1996.[1][2]
