Freedom of religion in Canada is a constitutionally protected right, allowing believers the freedom to assemble and worship without limitation or interference.[2]
According to the 2021 census, Christianity is the largest religion in Canada, with 53.3% of the population (more than half of these are Roman Catholic); one third of Canadians stated that they were irreligious or had no religion.[3]
In 2023, the country was scored 3 out of 4 for religious freedom;[4] it was noted that in 2019, a new law was put in place stating that some government employees in positions of authority were not allowed to wear religious symbols.
