A destructive series of tornadoes in damage struck the Northeastern United States on Monday July 10, 1989. The storm system affected five states with severe weather, including hail up to 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) across, thunderstorm winds up to 90 mph (140 km/h), and 17 tornadoes. Several towns in New York and Connecticut were particularly hard-hit. Several homes were leveled in Schoharie, New York, and extensive damage occurred in Bantam, Connecticut. A large section of Hamden, Connecticut, including an industrial park and hundreds of homes, was destroyed, and in some places, buildings were flattened to the ground.

The tornado outbreak injured more than 150 people, and straight-line thunderstorm winds killed one person. While tornado outbreaks in this area are unusual, this storm was especially rare in that it produced six significant tornadoes, including two violent F4 tornadoes and several long-tracked tornadoes.

Tornado tracks of 1955.

This page documents the tornadoes and tornado outbreaks of 1955, primarily in the United States. Most tornadoes form in the U.S., although some events may take place internationally. Tornado statistics for older years like this often appear significantly lower than modern years due to fewer reports or confirmed tornadoes.

The total count of tornadoes and ratings differs from various agencies accordingly. The article, therefore, documents information from the most contemporary official sources alongside assessments from tornado historian Thomas P. Grazulis.

This page documents all tornadoes confirmed by the European Severe Storms Laboratory or various governments or universities across Europe during 2024. Unlike the United States, the original Fujita Scale and the TORRO scale are used to rank tornadoes across the continent.

November 29

• 1991 – An F4 tornado moved through the southern and southeastern parts of Springfield, Missouri, destroying 53 homes and damaging 160 others. Two people were killed, one in his home and another in a truck thrown from the highway, and 64 were injured.
• 1992 – The strongest tornado on record in Australia, rated F4, struck Bucca, Queensland, severely damaging or destroying nine homes and killing 20 head of cattle. A truck was carried 300 meters.

November 30

• 1952 – A tornado hit Albertynesville, South Africa near Johannesburg, killing at least 20 people and injuring 400. Cars were reportedly lifted 100 feet (30 m) in the air.
• 2016 – Tornadoes hit the southeastern United States on the last day of a tornado outbreak. An EF3 tornado killed three people in a mobile home in Rosalie, Alabama and another in a house near Ider. A daycare center was swept off its foundation; the connection to the foundation had been rotted. Another EF3 tornado hit Ocoee, Tennessee, killing two people in a mobile home.

December 1

• 2006 – A small tornado outbreak hit Pennsylvania, mostly in the eastern part of the state. An F1 tornado killed one person near Halifax when a tree fell on the victim's car. An F2 tornado hit Fairview Heights, Mountain Top, and Dorrance Township. Five people were injured when the windows of a grocery store were blown out.
• 2018 – A tornado outbreak struck Missouri and Illinois with a handful of weak tornadoes elsewhere. An EF3 tornado caused extensive damage in Hewittsville and Taylorville, Illinois, destroying 28 homes and injuring 22 people. Damage totaled $118.9 million. An EF1 tornado killed one person in a hotel on the south side of Aurora, Missouri.
