Presidency University, Kolkata (formerly Presidency College, Kolkata)[2] is a public state university located in College Street, Kolkata. The institution was elevated to university status in 2010 after functioning as a constituent college of the University of Calcutta for about 193 years. The University boasts an illustrious list of extraordinary alumni over the last two centuries, including several pioneers of the Bengal Renaissance, leaders of the Indian Independence Movement, heads of state, noble laureates, and Academy Award winners.

In its first cycle as a university, Presidency received A grade with a score of 3.04/4.00 by the NAAC.[3] It has been recognized as an "Institute of National Eminence" by the UGC.[4] It appeared in the inaugural list of top 50 institutions of NIRF rankings in 2016. However, in 2017 and 2018 NIRF excluded Presidency University as it taught only science and humanities and not engineering, commerce, agriculture etc.[5]
