Schermer (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈsxɛrmər] ) is a former municipality in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. The name comes from "skir mere", which means "bright lake".[4] Since 2015 it has been a part of the municipality of Alkmaar.
The municipality of Schermer included not only the Schermer polder, but also the polders of Oterleek, Mijzenpolder and Eilandspolder.
