Merupakan bagian dari wilayah metropolitan New York, Jersey City di timur dibatasi oleh Sungai Hudson dan Teluk New York Atas dan di barat oleh Sungai Hackensack dan Teluk Newark. Sebuah pelabuhan masuk, dengan tepi laut sepanjang 30,7 mil (49,4 km) serta infrastruktur dan konektivitas kereta api yang luas,[37] kota ini merupakan terminal transportasi penting serta pusat distribusi dan manufaktur untuk Pelabuhan New York dan New Jersey.
