Post-hardcore adalah genre punk rock yang tetap mempertahankan agresivitas dan intensitas hardcore punk, tetapi sudah terpengaruh ekspresi kreatif yang terinspirasi oleh post-punk dan noise rock. Seperti post-punk, istilah tersebut telah diterapkan pada gugus yang luas. Post-hardcore dimulai pada 1980-an dengan grup-grup musik seperti Hüsker Dü dan Minutemen. Genre ini berkembang pada 1980-an dan 1990-an dengan rilisan grup musik dari kota yang terpengaruh pergerakan hardcore, seperti Fugazi dari Washington, D.C.[3] serta grup musik seperti Big Black dan Jawbox yang sangat dekat dengan noise rock.[3] Pada 2000-an, post-hardcore mencapai sukses arus utama dengan popularitas grup musik My Chemical Romance, AFI, Underoath, Hawthorne Heights, The Used, At the Drive-In, dan Senses Fail . Pada dasawarsa 2010-an, grup musik Sleeping with Sirens dan Pierce the Veil mencapai puncak suksenya dan band seperti Title Fight dan La Dispute berada pada popularitas bawah tanah.
