Surasena adalah Raja Wangsa Yadawa di Mathura[1][2][3] dan namanya dipakai sebagai nama kerajaan dan suku, antara lain Kerajaan Surasena dan percabangan suku Yadawa, yaitu Surasena atau Shoorsaini.[4][5][6] Menurut kitab Mahabharata (VII.144.6030-1), ia merupakan putra Dewamida, sedangkan menurut Purana, ayahnya bernama Dewamidhusa.[7] Ia sering disebut dalam Mahabharata dan Purana sebagai ayah Basudewa dan Pritha (IAST: Pŗtha; Kunti) dan merupakan kakek bagi Kresna dan para Pandawa.[8]
