Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a type of respiratory failure caused by a massive widespread inflammation in the lungs. Symptoms include shortness of breath, rapid breathing, and bluish skin color. For those who survive, a short life span is common as a result.
Causes may include sepsis, pancreatitis, trauma, pneumonia, and aspiration.[1]
