Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama[1] (née Robinson; born January 17, 1964) is an American lawyer and author. She was the first lady of the United States from 2009 to 2017 as the wife of the 44th president of the United States, Barack Obama. She was also the first African-American first lady in U.S. history.

As first lady, Obama was considered by some to be a role model for women. She worked as an advocate for poverty awareness, education, nutrition, physical activity, and healthy eating. She supported American designers and was considered a fashion icon.[2]
