The San Jose Sharks are an ice hockey team that plays in the National Hockey League (NHL). The team is based in San Jose, California and was founded on May 9th, 1990. It started playing in the NHL in autumn 1991. The team colours are pacific teal, grey, burnt orange and black. Because of this it is often called "Team Teal".

The Sharks host their games at SAP Center at San Jose and are coached by Bob Boughner. Before that, Todd McLellan was their coach from 2008 to 2015, and Peter DeBoer was their head coach from 2016 to 2020. Some famous players who played for the Sharks include Joe Pavelski, Joe Thornton, Jonathan Cheechoo, Rob Blake, Evgeni Nabokov, Dan Boyle, Marc-Édouard Vlasic, and Patrick Marleau.

Doug Wilson served as their general manager from 2003 to 2022.

The Sharks won their first ever Presidents' Trophy in the 2008–09 season, but would end up losing in 6 games to their rival, the Anaheim Ducks.

In the 2014 playoffs, the Sharks took on their other rival, the Los Angeles Kings, in the first round of the playoffs. The Sharks won their first three games of the series to take a 3-0 series lead. Despite leading the series with 3 wins and 0 losses, the Sharks lost 4 straight games and became only the 4th team to blow a 3-0 series lead in the Stanley Cup playoffs. The Kings would go onto win the Stanley Cup that year.

On May 25, 2016, the San Jose Sharks went to their first Stanley Cup by beating the St. Louis Blues 5-2 in 6 games but however, on June 12, 2016, they lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins which was also in 6 games.
