Triode

A triode (“valve” in British English) is a type of empty tube with wires in it (vacuum tube). It is not a vacuum tube diode, which has only two wires (electrodes), but has a third electrode, called the grid between the 2 wires (cathode and anode).

The word “triode” comes from the word parts “tri” (three) + “ode” (way, road).
